Multi-color 3D printing, such as dual-color, tricolor, and rainbow prints, involves specialized filaments that are typically more expensive than standard single-color materials. The setup is more complex, requiring additional calibration and ensuring color alignment, which increases labor. These prints also take longer to produce, adding to overall costs. The risk of errors is higher, as misalignment or blending issues can result in wasted materials and time, necessitating extra care and testing. Additionally, multi-color printing causes more wear on printers, leading to higher maintenance costs.
